Sick Visits Q & A

What is a sick visit?

A sick visit is a doctor’s visit that you book when you believe that you are experiencing an illness or an injury that requires care quickly but is not life-threatening or severe.

Examples of symptoms, injuries, and ailments for which you may schedule a sick visit at Millenium Park Medical Associates include:

  • High fever
  • Muscle strains or sprains
  • Green or white discharge from the eye, along with eye redness and/or itchiness
  • Persistent stomach ache, earache, headache, or sore throat
  • Persistent pain
  • Urinary tract infection symptoms
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • An allergic reaction or mild/moderate asthma attack
  • A persistent cough

If your symptoms come on suddenly, are severe, or you want care now, the practice also offers urgent care and same-day appointments.

Should I schedule a sick visit for the common cold?

If you have a cold, you can usually ride it out at home by ingesting lots of fluids and resting. However, from time to time, your cold gets so bad that you need to see a doctor. Book a sick visit if your cold features:

  • Wheezing
  • Shortness of breath
  • A severe sore throat, sinus pain, or a headache

Also seek out medical care if you have a fever that has lasted for more than five days, a fever that has returned after it broke, or a fever higher than 101.3℉.

What happens during a sick visit?

Dr. Khan and her team begin your sick visit by asking you about your symptoms and discussing your personal and family health history.

Then, they evaluate you by doing things like:

  • Taking your temperature
  • Listening to your breathing and heartbeat
  • Looking inside your ears for signs of infection
  • Feeling your throat for swollen lymph nodes

You may also take tests like urine analysis, stool analysis, X-ray imaging, or ultrasound imaging. If you have a sore throat that could be strep throat, you may take a rapid strep test for a quick diagnosis.

Millennium Park Medical Associates uses onsite labs and testing facilities, allowing the medical professionals to get you answers quickly.

They may conclude your appointment by writing you a prescription, and/and scheduling a follow-up appointment at the practice.
